Greetings

Greeting of Menashe Samira, CEO of the Second Authority for Television and Radio

We are happy to be part of and to help the International Women's Film Festival “Women in the Picture”, which takes place for the eigth year in Rehovot.

For years the Second Broadcast Authority has been supporting women filmmakers who bring Israeli experience in all its shapes to the screen. The Authority aids production of programs with uniqueness, interest and added value to the public. It invests large sums of money and insists on propriety in the production of hundreds of special documentaries, a few dramas and art and culture programs.

The Authority's productions deal with social and multicultural issues, with the heritage of the people and the nation, personal stories and mainly with subjects not expressed in commercial broadcasts. It encourages and integrates young and senior independent filmmakers from the center and the periphery.

Recently, in accordance with a change to the law, the Authority regulated the rules of support for Israeli films and for the cinema, and set a minimum investment of 12 million shekels a year of the  Second Authority's franchisees in cinema. Due to past debts, about 3-4 million shekels will add to that every year in the next few years. This support will allow filmmakers to produce films with full Israeli funding.

The Second Authority is a home for Israeli filmmakers and promotes Israeli creation. In recent years we have supported more women than in the past, and we shall continue to support filmmakers from different groups of society.

Feminine creation brings to the screen creativity and originality from a special and different angle, which enriches the world of film by reflecting society from women's point of view. The Women in the Picture Festival in Rehovot has a special role in promoting this important trend.

I congratulate everyone involved in the work on the festival and I wish great success to all filmmakers in the different competitions.

Congratulations and good luck,
Menashe Samira
CEO
