We Need to Talk About Kevin

UK/USA, 2011

Eva had everything in life: a loving husband, two children, and a good job as a successful publisher. Her only concern in life was the lack of communication with her son Kevin, but as his father and him got along quite well, she hoped that he would pass puberty and become something... easier to deal with. But then everything changed. What do you do when your son shocks a whole nation and shatters your life? Was Kevin born a sociopath or is she also to blame for his crimes to some extent? And maybe the explanation lies in the alienated way of life which characterized American society in the end of the 20th century, when a violence became a macabre trend? The film, adapted from the award winning novel by Lionel Shriver, is a disturbing psychological thriller which leaves you breathless until its shaking end. Ramsay, in her unique and uncompromising style, focuses on the mother’s consciousness and sends poignant arrows to the heart of a social taboo – a mother’s love to her son.
