Tzipora & Jacob – "My Parents" Project

Israel, 2011

The project My Parents is comprised of a series of documentary films in which each director tells the story of his parents’ relationship. Each movie is an independent documentary creation with its own cinematic language. Tzipora & Jacob is the third film in the project.

Gitit spent 18 months filming her parents, Jacob and Tzipora, who after 50 years of marriage are forced to confront repressed fears and frustrations. Jacob has suffered a stroke, and after months of rehabilitation returns home in a wheelchair, accompanied by a live-in Pilipino caregiver. Tzipora refuses to accept this new reality – a changed husband, a changed relationship and a changed home, and, feeling helpless and depressed, considers leaving. A penetrating look at a relationship in crisis, told through a daughter’s eyes.
