Sona, the Other MyselfJapan, South Korea, 2009
In the film, stretching over a period of 15 years, the director, Yonghi Yang, introduces the audience with Sona, her brother’s daughter, who emigrated from Japan to North Korea in the early 1970s. The film allows a rare glimpse into life in North Korea. Sona’s childhood is affected by being of a family of immigrants, who are still strongly attached to their homeland, Japan. Although the country bans her and her films, Yang’s universal yet intimate look at North Korea adds a dimension of normality to the country, not usually in line with its widespread image. ![]() Documentary | Video | 82 Minutes | Color | Korean and Japanese, Hebrew & English subtitles Director: Yonghi Yang 4/9, 17:00 5/9, 21:30 Get Tickets
