Wendy and Lucy![]() USA, 2008 Young Wendy is fed up with her life in Indiana and decides to move to Alaska and find work in a salmon cannery. She has nothing but her beloved dog Lucy and a worn out car. In Oregon the car does not start and Wendy is troubled by the deflating budget, but her troubles are only beginning. Kelly Reichardt draws a fine intimate portrait of a young woman and creates a minimalist, clever, modest and prominent feminine journey film full of nuances. Its power is built slowly and carefully, and Wendy's troubling character does not let go of the viewer. Using a limited narrative structure – one woman and one dog – Reichardt creates a sad allegory of contemporary American society, shifting between extremes of richness and poverty, fullness and emptiness, and distractedly wasting the simplest and most important resource: love.
