Tengri: Blue Heavens

Kyrgyzstan/France/Germany, 2008

After working abroad, Temur returns to his ancestral village in Kyrgyzstan. Though his family is no longer there, the villagers accept him as one of their own. Soon enough Temur and a local married woman, Amira, fall in love. They attempt to hide their affair with failed results, and when Amira’s husband hears the rumour, they escape to the mountains and steppes while he follows them. Director Marie-Jaoul de Poncheville‘s intimate knowledge of central Asia provides an authentic rich view of traditional and closed culture and society. In a visually arresting landscape she draws a story of love and forbidden passion.
